Kilkenny has a long-standing reputation for being a hub of creativity and ‘MADE in Kilkenny‘ contributes to this.
All the craftspeople in ‘MADE in Kilkenny’ make their own work using both traditional and modern techniques. From the white-hot furnace of a glass-blower, the throwing wheel of a potter and the practiced hammering and manipulation of precious metals to the careful sawing, turning and chiseling of wood and stone and to the tasteful stitching of textiles and leather
Contributing to Ireland’s heritage, they are committed to preserving and developing ancient techniques, and presenting you with beautiful pieces to drink and to eat from, to carry and to store things, to sit on, to admire, and to adorn the body with!
You can watch pots being thrown in pottery shops such as Castle Arch Pottery in the Castle Yard where you can chat with the artists as they work. Browse through high quality pieces of jewellery crafted by Derek Blanche, a goldsmith with ten years’ experience. Check out Aileen Anne Brannigan’s stone carvings that are sure to enhance any setting. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience you must visit ‘Moth to a Flame’ in Bennettsbridge, a craft stronghold, where you can see the production of hand made candles, and afterwards, purchase the finished product in their shop.
